Attending An Interactive Murder Mystery Event
What to Expect
For most of our interactive murder mystery events, they include a meal portion as well as a mingling time before dinner. You will arrive at the appointed time and enjoy a drink and get a chance to interact with the other attendees. The meal will then be served and you can continue to chat with the people at your table. While you chat with people, you may be talking with the murderer!
After dinner the real fun begins – you get to play detective! We will give you a few easy rules when questioning the suspects, then it’s up to you to question all of the suspects and piece together the REAL story. You will then turn in your guess and we’ll reveal who did the dirty deed!
Do I Need To Dress In Costume?
All of our team will be in costume that matches the theme of the event. This might be decked out in their best 1920s suit, a getup from the 80s, wearing a cowboy or cowgirl outfit, or other costume. This helps to get into the theme of the show and enhances the fun. We always encourage attendees to dress up in costume as well, and we even will try to give away prizes to for the best costumes. And even if you don’t win, it’s still fun to pretend to be someone else for a few hours. So no, you don’t need to dress in costume, but you’ll have more fun if you do.
Will I Need To Speak In Public?
Absolutely not! You will only need to have conversations with our actors and perhaps with your table mates in order to deduce who the murderer is. We aren’t going to put anyone on the spot, except to congratulate you when you guess the right character as the murderer. Your guess will be a secret ballot so no one else needs to know who you guessed (unless you win). Our team is used to acting out in public, so we’ll take care of that.
Hosting An Interactive Murder Mystery Event
Who Does These Kinds Of Events?
All kinds of groups and organizations choose to hold an interactive murder mystery event with our group. We have done performances in a supper club, a VFW hall, at a brewery, and other locations. These have been fundraisers for different organizations and individuals but have also been ways to increase business on slower days. In short, if you think that you would like to host one of these events, we can help you make it happen!
How Large Of A Venue Is Needed?
We typically need a space that can handle at least 50 people, and usually 75-100 person capacity is used. This is to allow all attendees to have a seat for the meal, plus allow our team to be a part of the mingling and meal, as well as anyone else such as the servers or others. The more attendees that you intend to have, the larger the space that will be needed.
Having 50 attendees is also a great number that works for our team as well as not being too large or too small. We can always go larger and have done events with up to 80 attendees, but could go to 100 or more if the situation dictates. We have the ability to flex on the number of actors and actresses based on the total attendees so that there are neither too many nor too few suspects for the attendees to question.
How Long Do These Events Last?
We generally plan for approximately 3 hours for the official event to last, but most times things are wrapped up with attendees heading home in about 2.5 hours. We intentionally keep our schedule loose to allow people enough time to question the suspects as well as to allow the food to be done and ready. Of course, there will need to be time ahead of the start time to set up the venue, plus cleaning up after the event is done and the murderer is revealed.
Our team will arrive about 60-90 minutes before the official start of the event. This will provide our team the ability to understand the layout of the venue, plus to understand their roles and interactions with the other suspects. This also means that when the first attendees arrive, the show starts right then!
